Missy Raines
Missy Raines is a bass player, singer, songwriter, teacher, and band leader. She has been named "Bass Player of the Year" by the International Bluegrass Music Association 7 times, more than any other bassist, male or female. She has a rich history of touring and recording with many first generation legends such as Eddie Adcock, Mac Wiseman, Jesse McReynolds, Josh Graves, and Kenny Baker. She's a former member of the Claire Lynch Band, The Brother Boys, and the acoustic duo, Jim Hurst and Missy Raines.
Currently, Missy leads her own band, Missy Raines & The New Hip, an Americana/bluegrass ensemble with 2 recordings on Compass Records. Her latest release, New Frontier, features Raines' vocals throughout and has lauded her comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Rosanne Cash. A third cd, featuring mostly originals from Missy, is set for release in early 2017.
Missy is also one fourth of the bluegrass supergroup, Helen Highwater Stringband along with Mike Compton, David Grier, and Shad Cobb. Helen Highwater Stringband currently tour and have a 5 song EP available. They are working on a full length album to be released in 2017.
In addition to a full-time touring schedule of performance, Missy teaches at workshops and music camps all over the world and heads up the ArtistWorks Academy of Bluegrass School of Bass, a revolutionary interactive online music school.
